The aim of this thesis research is to harness the great potential of image processing techniques which have evolved significantly in the last years, to build an automatic system to detect and diagnose breast cancer in the digital mammographic images in order to help those interested people in this domain, such as radiologists and specialists in oncology and to improve their performance by reducing error rates of breast cancer diagnosis. Since segmentation and extracting the effective features of mammograms play a major role to isolate and classify suspicious regions which can be subject to cancer, in this work, we focus on abnormality detection using seed-based region growing(SBRG) and Multi-thresholding OTSU's method to segment the region of interest (ROI). Then the texture features of the segmented ROI are extracted which are used to classify the ROI as normal or abnormal tissue by using an Artificial Neural Network (ANN). This system can correctly classify the tested region by a rate of 93.80%.
Bu tezin amacı son yıllarda belirgin ölçüde gelişen görüntü işleme tekniklerinin kullanarak, onkolojide radyolog ve uzmanlar gibi bu alanda bulunan ilgili insanlara yardımcı olmak amacıyla ve göğüs kanseri teşhis hatası oranını düşürerek performansını arttırmaya yönelik dijital mamografi görüntülerinde meme kanseri tespit ve teşhis etmek için otomatik bir sistemi oluşturmaktır.Kanser ile ilişkili olabilecek şüpheli bölgelerin izole edilmesi ve sınıflandırılmasında mamogramların vetkin özelliklerinin segmentasyonu ve ayıklanmasının önemli bir rol oynamasından dolayı bu çalışmamızda anormalliklerin teşhisinde tohum temelli bölgesel büyümeye (SBRG) odaklanarak ilgili bölgeyi (ROI) segmente etmek için OTSU yönteminin çoklu eşiklemesine odaklandık. Daha sonra da ROI’nin segmente edilen doku özellikleri ayıklanarak, ROI’nin normal ya da anormal doku olduğunu tanımlamak bir Yapay Sinir Ağı (ANN)’nı kullandık. Bu sistem test edilen bölgeyi % 93.80’lik bir oranla doğru olarak sınıflandırabilmektedir
