Abstract:
Conservation council is a common system which was preferred by many nations for decision
making in heritage conservation issues. This study discusses the question of sustainability of heritage
conservation councils in Turkey. The background of conservation council system in Turkey is presented
and the structural problems of the system are discussed with respect to the texts of law and academic
works, to figure out the current problems. In the conclusion section the question of sustainability is
evaluated from the governments and the conservation experts’ points of view.
