Yeni sistemler geliştirilirken önceden geliştirilmiş bileşenler kullanılır. Eğer bir sistem için özel bir fonksiyon geliştiriyorsanız, onu daha sonra başka sistemlerde de kullanılacak şekilde geliştirmek gerekmektedir. İlke olarak basit gibi görünse de geliştirmenin gerçekten zor oluğu görünmüştür. Bu çalışmada, bileşen yönelimli yazılım mühendisliğinin geçmişi ve esasları incelenmiştir. Bu esaslar doğrultusunda geliştirilmiş olan COSEML (Bileşen Yönelimli Yazılım Mühendisliği Modelleme Dili) temelleri esas alınarak, eksikliği hissedilen modelleme aracı tasarlanıp, geliştirilmiştir.

Prof. Gülsün TÖRECİ September 2004, 71 pages The Component-Oriented software development is closely related to reuse of previous developed components. The basic idea is simple: when developing new systems, use the components that have already been developed. When you develop specific functions you need in your system, develop it in a way that this function can be used by other systems in the future. Although the principle is simple, it has been shown that the implementation is quite hard. In this thesis, the history and essentials of Component-Oriented Software Engineering are investigated. A modeling tool for the language (Component-Oriented Software Engineering Modeling Language- COSEML), which is already defined according to these essentials, is designed and implemented.
